The Chevy Colorado ZR2, the hottest midsize off-road truck on the market, has been named by Four Wheeler magazine as the “Pickup Truck of the Year.” The magazine invited all trucks that were either new or redesigned for the 2018 model year, putting the entrants through a variety of tests that included everything a driver might want from an off-road vehicle. The tests were conducted on hill climbs, water crossing, snow, loose trails, rocks, sand, paved roads and even a racetrack. The clear winner was the ZR2 providing the power, agility and traction needed to conquer any trail. “Chevrolet has a proven track record of success developing performance variants for Corvette and Camaro,” said GM executive Mark Dickens. “ZR2 takes this philosophy and applies it to Colorado, albeit in a way that makes sense for a truck, enabling customers to rock crawl, desert run and even drive comfortably on paved roads, all with equal degrees of confidence and fun.” Check in with the pros at Chapman Chevrolet to inspect the ZR2 and take a test drive.

ZR2 is Wider and Higher

The Chevy Colorado ZR2 is lifted by 2 inches over the standard Colorado model, providing plenty of clearance for obstacles and shallow water. The ZR2 is also 3 1/2 inches wider to provide greater stability and a wider footprint to attack angled hills. A modification of the front and rear bumpers provides better entry and exit angles into ravines and crevices. Functional rocker protection, electronic locking differentials in the front and rear and adjustable dampers all add to the performance of the ZR2 both on and off the trail. The ZR2 is the perfect truck to take for a desert run in the morning, then high tail it into the mountains for some scenic exploring in the afternoon.

Choose Your Engine

The Chevy Colorado is the only midsize truck to offer a diesel engine alternative. The 2.8L turbo-diesel offers both the power and fuel efficiency that make the Colorado one-of-a-kind in the truck market. When equipped with the diesel engine, the Colorado also delivers the best towing capability in its class with the ability to tow up to 7,700 pounds. That’s more than enough for most recreational needs. The Chevy Colorado ZR2 also offers its proven 3.6L V6 engine, which delivers best-in-class 308 horsepower.
