This year was big for small Chevrolets. With gas prices well above $3, compact cars offer great gas mileage without sacrificing style and space. Next time you visit your Phoenix Chevy dealer, check out the Spark, Sonic and Cruze.

Spark: MSRP $12,245

This compact Chevy makes driving in the city an enjoyable experience. The car is 12 feet long and can easily fit into the toughest parking spots. It also has incredible fuel economy getting 32 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. The Chevy Spark saves you money no matter where you drive. It may be small, but has 31.2 cubic feet of cargo space, which is two and three times as much as the Scion iQ and Fiat 500, respectively.  Kelly Blue Book consumers rated the Spark 9.3 out of 10. Pros from consumers included safety, comfort, space and gas mileage. According to KBB.com, the Spark has “striking aesthetics” and comes in unique colors such as Jalapeño, Denim, Lemonade, Salsa and Techno Pink.

Sonic: MSRP $14,800

In 2012, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Sonic five stars for Overall Vehicle Score for safety. It is equipped with 10 air bags with sensors throughout the car that determine how many air bags to deploy in the event of a crash. The Sonic also has the optional turbocharged engine that offers 40 mpg on the highway. KBB consumers gave the Sonic an 8.8 out of 10, emphasizing the great fuel efficiency and safety. However, many consumers recommend adding cruise control, which does not come standard on the base model. The Chevrolet Sonic is available in either a sedan or hatchback and colors ranging from Silver Ice Metallic to Victory Red.

Cruze: MSRP $17,130

This compact sedan has aesthetic appeal with its Chevrolet grille, sculpted fenders, swept-back lamps and variety of metallic colors. The Cruze has more passenger room and cargo space than its competitors and has 60/40 split-folding rear seats that provide room for larger items. The ECO models offer 42 mpg on the highway, better than any other vehicle in its class. All Cruze models, however, live up to Chevy’s high standard of efficiency with 36 mpg on the highway. The Chevy Cruze is connected with Chevrolet MyLink, which gives you turn-by-turn navigation, Bluetooth® connectivity, access to mobile apps, safety technology and much more.

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Turbo

Something new has arrived at Chapman Chevrolet.  Something new and turbocharged, that is.  The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu now comes with an optional turbocharged engine, giving those fond of the Malibu’s year-after-year dependability a whole new reason to get excited.

The new Malibu Turbo’s most noteworthy new feature is, of course, the engine: a direct-injected 2.0L 4-cylinder aluminum block which is both turbocharged and intercooled.  For the uninitiated, that means more power than last year’s V-6, with the new Ecotec 2.0L Turbo coming in at 259 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque at a mere 1700 rpm according to Car and Driver.  Few, if any, sedans can offer more power than that now available in the Chevy Malibu in Phoenix.

Perhaps the largest benefit of the 4-cylinder turbo (as opposed to a V-6) is that all of the Malibu’s power comes with improved fuel economy – EPA estimates place the Malibu Turbo at 21/30 city/highway miles per gallon.  As fuel prices seem to rise each year, knowing that the new Malibu’s pizzazz will not cause grimaces at the pump is a relief.

Of course, that’s not all the 2013 Chevy Malibu has to offer.  A model known for its quiet and spacious interior, the new iteration follows suit with more space in the front seat than in last year’s Malibu.

Also present is some of the latest and greatest automotive technology.  The new Malibu comes equipped with Chevy’s MyLink system, a color LCD screen with navigation and other quality-of-drive features, as well as voice-activated commands and a rear-facing camera.  Forward collision control (and lane departure warnings to prevent the need for it) is available.

Chevrolet cut no corners with the Malibu’s new design – in the interior, leather abounds, while the exterior presents a sleek, modern look complete with LED-cluster tail lights and 18-inch wheels (19-inch optional).

All in all, there is little to complain about here, as the new Malibu Turbo delivers in all the areas that count for its class: a four-door, five-seat sedan which is smooth, comfortable, efficient, and sporty enough to infuse some energy into the daily commute.  Call or stop by your Phoenix Chevy dealer to see the newest entry in the long line of Malibu family sedans.
